Vershon Signs with Warner Music UK

Dancehall’s young queffa, Vershon, is on a high after inking a distribution deal with Warner Music (UK) through Britain’s Saint Music / Parlophone. The signing preceded the March 5 release of his EP titled ‘Only One, his first major project since the ink dried on the deal. The EP showcases the artiste masterfully marrying his dancehall flavour with an international pop sound traversing the United Kingdom and the Caribbean.

Consisting of six tracks, the compilation is executively produced by British hitmakers’ FaNaTix’ with Warner ADA’s distribution courtesy. The EP boasts a carefully curated array of guests, including Chip, Trillary Banks, and Busy Signal.

It’s been just about 1 year since the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Jamaica, and since then, the entertainment industry has been on lockdown. Globally, the music industry came to a standstill with clubs and venues being closed, and tours being cancelled. Since touring isn’t on the books, Vershon decided to release an EP, which can boost his career in these challenging times.

“This is not my first EP. I did an EP independently in 2017 called ‘One More Day. So now, working with FaNaTiX, It’s new. Signing with Parlophone is also new because I’ve never signed a record deal. So that’s why I decided why not just put out an EP instead of one song, so it’s a body of music,” Vershon said in a release.

Talking about how he got involved with FaNaTiX, the artiste recalled, “Plan B was in Jamaica in 2019 with the FaNaTiX. They were in Montego Bay, and the FaNaTiX asks me to come and make some music with them, so I went. I didn’t know who Plan B was, the FaNaTiX introduced me to him, and I invited him into the sessions. It was a real vibe and energy. It felt like we knew each other a long time, years ago, because we’re both on the same mission. So, yeah, that was just a vibe, an energy thing.”

Vershon’s ‘Only One EP is currently available for purchase on major digital platforms. Check out the recently released video for ‘Stick By Me‘:
